Majority World Gen Z started the global protest wave now spreading to Europe

19 October 2026, Jalisco, Mexico – Young people across the Majority World have led a global wave of protests against an economy rigged for the 1%. In Mexico, protesters are out in the streets demanding clean water. In India, young people are demanding decent education and fair elections.  In Kenya, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, the Philippines and beyond Gen Z have taken the lead. Now the protests have spread to France, Spain, Italy, Albania and elsewhere in Europe following the lead of their sisters and brothers in the Majority World Héctor Castañon, Head of Secretariat for Fight Inequality Alliance who has been part of the protests in Jalisco, Mexico says:

“I have been part of the demonstrations in Mexico. What young people there want is what young people in Nairobi, Manila and New Delhi want: clean water, decent schools, affordable housing, food and fuel, elections that aren’t bought, and an economy that doesn’t hand everything to billionaires. Gen Z in the Majority World started this. Now young people in Paris, Madrid and other European cities have joined them, because the same rigged economy is failing them too. Governments everywhere should listen to what the people are saying: tax extreme wealth, tackle the cost of living crisis, and fund our public services, or watch these protests grow.”
