Six months of organising came before Johannesburg
Before the Summit, People’s Assemblies were held in 20 countries across three continents, from Burkina Faso to Honduras to India, drawing in more than 300 organisations and 42 languages. These assemblies set the agenda from the ground up, built by the people living the crisis.
We the 99 was co-convened by Fight Inequality Alliance, Mobilize, and New Economy Hub, alongside comrades across the Majority World who’d been organising for this moment for years.

This Declaration was written by the movement, not for it. It’s the product of six months of People’s Assemblies in 20 countries, town halls, and three days of debate at the People’s Summit in Johannesburg. It sets out what a global economy built for the 99% actually requires, and who’s standing in the way.

We Claim the Future: The 99% Rising for a Just World
We stand here in solidarity as the 99% — workers and farmers, caregivers and teachers, migrants and youth, Indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalised members of our societies rendered invisible by systems of power. We come from every corner of the earth, from lands marked by debt and extraction, from communities resisting genocide, patriarchy, and climate chaos.
We gather because the world is at a breaking point. Inequality deepens. Illegitimate debt strangles nations. Climate collapse displaces millions. Wars and authoritarianism silence voices. These crises are not accidents — they are a deliberate blueprint of a global economic order engineered through conquest, colonialism, and greed, with a racialised and patriarchal system at its core.
Today,we declare: Enough. Life must come before profit. People and nature are not for sale.
Our Truth
We live in a system structured by violence — economic, social, and ecological. A system shaped by neoliberalism and neocolonial control, where the 1% hoards wealth and power while the majority struggles to survive. Dependency on illegitimate debt and
illicit financial flows rob our nations of sovereignty, while militarisation and surveillance drain resources from health and education. Digital monopolies commodify our creativity and control our data.
This violence is racialised, gendered, and classed — criminalising migrants, erasing Indigenous peoples, exploiting unpaid care work, and deepening caste and ethnic hierarchies. We confront the silent crisis of mental health driven by precarity, violence and grief. Our bodies, our time, our dreams are extracted for profit.
We say: No more. No more silence, no more surrender — we rise to reclaim our power and our planet.
End neoliberal and neocolonial control. Create institutions accountable to people and planet — not the 1%.
Make the super-rich, Big Tech, and multinationals pay their fair share.
End tax havens, shell companies, and capital flight. They are not just stealing money — they are stealing our schools, hospitals, and public services.
Replace the architecture of exploitation with debt justice. Conduct people’s audits to expose illegitimate debts and cancel those that rob nations of sovereignty.
End land grabs, labour abuse, and ecological destruction. Defend communities and ecosystems from critical minerals extraction.
Reject false ‘green’ solutions. Make rich polluters pay for planned global phaseout of fossil fuels and just transitions.
Value unpaid labour. Guarantee reproductive justice and bodily autonomy.
Protect Indigenous land rights. Invest in local, sustainable food systems.
Defend freedoms to speak, organise, and create.
Stop military invasions and settler colonialism — and uphold the right of peoples to land, life, and liberation. Free Sudan. Free Palestine. Free DRC. Free everyone, everywhere.
Our Call
WeThe99 must organise to mobilise. We will channel our anger into action – turning rage into resistance and resistance into transformation. Galvanise the power of the Gen Z – a generation that refutes diplomacy in the face of injustice and dares to lead with rage and imagination.
From Chiapas to Karachi, Nairobi to Soweto, Manila to Belém — we are rising. We are reclaiming our economies, our bodies, our lands, our futures. We demand peace without war, dignity without conditions, and a world built collectively for the many, not the few.
